Issue 175: To examine the possible causes of rapid oxygen fluctuations on a cellular level, we developed a hybrid agent-based model to generate in silico tissues with numerically stable oxygen concentrations. We then attempted to computationally reproduce the experimentally recorded fluctuations based on either varying influx of oxygen from vessels or varying uptake of oxygen from cells. In this figure we show snapshots of a simulation of varying the influx in one of our regions of interest. The panels consist of contour maps of the simulated oxygen distribution, with the vessels circled. The color scheme of the contour map corresponds to that used in EPR imaging for the partial pressure of oxygen, where cyan represents low oxygenation and white represents high oxygenation.
