Issue 186: Describing medical images using mathematics can help us analyse and understand them. In our new paper, we show how immunohistochemistry images (left) can be described using Persistence Landscapes (right), a new Topological Data Analysis tool. In combination with mathematical modelling, we use this to explore the relationship between immune cell localisation and hypoxia in head and neck tumour samples.
